Wisconsin faith voices for justice annual meeting: immigrant justice and the dairy industry
WHEN: Thursday, June 22 at 4 PM - 6 PM
WHERE: Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1600 N Genesee St, Delafield, WI 53018
The Trump Administration’s immigration policies have created a heightened feeling of fear and insecurity in the immigrant communities. Wisconsin Faith Voices for Justice has focused a large part of our work this year in opposing those policies and supporting our immigrant friends and neighbors. As part of this work, our program at our annual meeting will focus on justice for immigrant farm workers. While the dairy industry opposes the immigration policies that threaten a significant part of their workforce, immigrant farm workers are often at risk for mistreatment. Because of their immigration status, they fear reporting issues such as wage theft and unsafe working conditions.
Join us as we hear from Dr. Diego Calderon, Research Fellow at the School of Veterinary Medicine at UW-Madison. When Dr. Calderon first came to Wisconsin fifteen years ago, he was employed as a dairy farm worker. From that experience, he became a passionate advocate for immigrant rights, an advisor to undocumented farm workers, and an advocate for the environment. Dr. Calderon will share his stories and his perspective on immigrant rights, especially the rights of undocumented farm workers.
Also at the Annual Meeting, help us celebrate our accomplishments of the past year, welcome new board members, and look toward a new year of advocating for social and economic justice!
Refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.
Please RSVP by June 20 to wifaithvoices4justice@gmail.com
