Position: Dane County Organizer
Project: WIVEC Outreach to Campus Ministries and Dane County Faith Community
Organization: Wisconsin Interfaith Voter Engagement Campaign
Project Budget: $10,000
Project Description
Wisconsin Interfaith Voter Engagement Campaign (WIVEC) is partnering with faith-based student organizations on the UW-Madison campus -- Hillel, Center for Interfaith Dialogue, Pres House, and The Crossing -- and the greater Dane County faith community to generate interest and identify and recruit student leadership through a “Ladder of Engagement'' action plan that builds engagement from the ground up. Students will engage in meaningful dialogue and activities as they work with congregations from different faiths and the broader community in voter engagement actions. Typical of WIVEC’s programming, the goal is to create an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect that is sorely needed on college campuses.
Outcome/Evaluation
WIVEC expects to engage students and community members to work together across faiths to promote voter registration and voter protection. We can measure the outcome by reflecting on the following data points: number of students who train to become leaders, number of students who attend voter engagement seminars, number of students who lead and participate in voter registration drives, number of students who lead and participate in voter canvassing events, number of voters registered at on-campus events, number of voters registered at Madison and Dane County canvassing events, number of voters talked to during on-campus events, and number of voters talked to at area canvassing events.
WIVEC will not only collect the data, but we will continue to meet with organization leaders, student leaders, and other participants to learn how to continue the program to its fullest potential. On-site evaluations will be passed out to all participants at events.
