Faithful Action for a Healthy Wisconsin
Faithful Action for a Healthy Wisconsin is a joint initiative of Wisconsin Council of Churches, MICAH, and Wisconsin Faith Voices for Justice. We organize clergy and faith leaders of all faiths across Wisconsin to advocate for equitable public health policies.
We began in 2020 as an effort to advocate for robust public health orders and a meaningful economic relief package in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. We organized clergy to take this pledge to keep their congregations closed and prioritize health and safety over in-person worship. We held press conferences to demonstrate faith support for robust public health orders, submitted an amicus brief and supporting letters from clergy to the state Supreme Court to counter claims that Safer at Home violated religious practice, and sent a sign-on letter to health care workers to show our support.
In 2022, we have broadened our agenda to look at the intersection between health care disparities and racism. We are working to change the narrative about public health, away from a narrative of personal responsibility to one focused on the social determinants of health and the need to look systemically at the many factors that conspire to keep people from living healthy lives.
Please join us in this important work.
